Welcome wonderful Spring!
Well, we could say down here, that winter is all but wrapped up! Officially spring time has begun, although the temperature is still crisp and as I write this, I see we have fresh snow on the hills and mountains around us.
I hope everyone is keeping well and staying positive. It is a beautiful spring day today, the type of day it would be great to have more people here to enjoy! With Auckland now having moved to Level 3 and positive signs that community transmission cases are reducing we remain hopeful that Queenstown will be bustling again soon.
This morning I walked around my very sorry looking winter garden and noticed that all the spring bulbs are just about to burst – I even found one lonely bluebell that is flowering, and the smell is just divine! Flowers are such a joy and wonder to behold, especially after a cold and colourless winter. They are a constant inspiration for me, although the heating requirements down here do not partner well with my addiction to having flowers everywhere inside, unfortunately!
It has been quite a few months since our last newsletter, it was my original aim to put one out each season, and in fact, from me beginning this one (the beginning of spring) already a month has passed – the tulips that were just about to burst in the garden are now in full bloom!
My apologies, but on the 4th of June, I gave birth to a beautiful baby daughter who has kept me very busy! We named her Theodora, Teddy for short and she is just delicious. She is already firmly a part of the Flora Fauna family, and I’m sure she will relish growing up in the shop! Here is a wee pic of her looking very content already amongst the art, plants and cushions, whilst Mum does some work!
We have just had a large delivery of the wonderful Paddywax Candles, what I like to call the scented candle for those that don’t like scented candles – their rather ‘masculine’ scents, like ‘Tobacco and Patchouli’ are really lovely, and they do sell out so fast so get in quick either in-store or online at florafauna.co.nz before they are all gone. Our taxidermy collection continues to come, and go – a rather fabulous porcupine lasted all of 1 week in the shop, and we have just sold Picasso, our marvellous Macaw to a lovely man who lives in Christchurch. If you see a piece that you are interested in, please don’t hesitate as they do fly out the door, excuse the pun. If you are ever looking for something in particular, also do get in contact as we know people!
Much love, and enjoy those spring flowers while they last!
